Off-Road motorcyclists
P/c Harris has
mounted signs in the village warning motor-cyclists using the fields as
race-tracks and scramble-tracks that this is unlawful and they risk the
confiscation of their machines.
Heavy goods vehicles
P/c
Harris has also put up notices at each of the road junctions leading into the
village emphasising the weight limit and the fact that this limit is being
enforced by the police. We are asked to record the registration numbers of
vehicles passing through the village in contravention of the 7½ ton weight
limit, together with any other visible identification, and pass them on to the
police.

Crime within Norton
Three motor
bikes were stolen from a barn in Norton. This was an audacious theft: there
was evidence of a reconnaissance having been carried out the night before,
slates having been lifted from the barn roof; a lorry had been heard at 4
a.m. of a summer’s morning and had been parked nearby in an area overlooked
by a semi-circle of neighbours.
We are
reminded to leave nothing of value in a vehicle. Criminals know exactly
where to look. There were three thefts from vehicles and one attempted
theft of a vehicle in one night recently.
