The Community
Association was founded and registered as a Charity in 1982 and for two main
purposes:
-
To promote
community diversity and participation through organised events such as
coffee mornings and charity quizzes and organise community events like the
children's Trick or Teat and Halloween party, as well as the villages
Bonfire Night celebrations.
-
To manage
and maintains Norton Village Hall, which was built is 1844 by Buriah
Botfield. The Botfield family were the local landowners and built many of
the older buildings in Norton.
The hall was
originally the village school rooms, which during the 1930's saw some
seventy children in attendance.
In spring
2008 and winter 2009 the committee has carried out a number of improvements
to the building which included new heating, disabled toilet facilities,
redecoration throughout, new storage cupboards and tables. The latest
addition to the hall is a hearing loop.
These were
largely funded by Norton Parish Council, Northants County Council,
Daventry District Council, Northamptonshire Community Foundation,
the Maud Elkington Trust and Awards for All.
The total
project spend has exceeded £35,000 and the Community Association is very
grateful to all these organisations for their support.
Currently
there are a number of local groups using the village hall which include
NVCA
Coffee morning - second Thursday of the month
Children's play group – every Friday morning at 10.30
NN PAST – last Friday of the month
The hall, which has excellent catering facilities, is available for bookings
by businesses and private hirers at reasonable rates.
