Description: Roman nail cleaner  (rare – a type previously unrecorded).
 A beautiful cast copper-alloy Roman nail cleaner circa 50-200AD The Head is designed as that of a female with tied back hair. The figure depicted is uncertain but it is likely that it represents a female deity and that it was probably one of a number of toilet/cosmetic articles which would have been attached to a chatelaine brooch.

  Description:  Medieval bronze candle holder (one of only 3 recorded found to date)
A cast copper-alloy candle holder in the form of standing dog. A vertical hole through the body holds the end of the candle holder itself, the conical socket of which is formed from a strip of folded copper-alloy. Zoomorphic candle holders are not common but examples are known in the form of dogs and deer.

  Description: Roman bronze mount showing a human face
A copper-alloy Roman mount in the form of a human face only 18mm high x 16mm wide. It is not possible to say to what this would have been originally attached.

Description: Double looped buckle
A double looped asymmetrical buckle cast from copper-alloy and now missing it’s pin. The buckle is decorated with a quatrefoil design on either side where the strap bar meets the frame and a trefoil at the head of the buckle.

Description: Roman crossbow fibula
A Roman crossbow fibula or brooch of a type popular in the 3rd & 4th centuries. It has ring and dot decoration and would have been used as a clothes fastening.

  Description: Roman votive miniature cauldron
A miniature cast copper-alloy cauldron which would have been specially made and used as a votive offering.

Description: Roman Denarius A first century silver Roman denarius of the ruler Vespasian. This coin is of an early issue and of a type previously unrecorded. The reverse type of ‘Fortunae Victrici’ meaning ‘to fortunate victory’ was an entirely appropriate message for the general whose elevation to the position of emperor brought to an end more than a year of civil war.
